I realize this may be redundant news for many of you, but I felt it was worth mentioning given it’s one of my favorite places for sandwiches & wraps. Last month, after nearly a decade at 133 Spring Street, Nancy Campbell and her crew made way for Cara Stadler (of Tao Yuan fame) to convert the space for her dumpling shop venture. The deli’s new location will be in the heart of the Arts District with Emilitsa and MECA as some of its new neighbors.
The new spot was formerly an art gallery and appears to be at least double the size of WED’s original location. This extra square footage means a bigger kitchen, which they hope will expand their catering capabilities. They should also expect a tremendous increase in foot traffic along The Congo. I wish Nancy and her staff all the best at their new home and hope they are on target for opening before spring because I am seriously jonesin’ for a Pegasus wrap!
Food for thought: is their business name obsolete now that it’s technically no longer in the West End?
** UPDATE as of 2/26/14: Portland Food Map reports the deli opened for business Tuesday afternoon! **
